Who I Am

About Stormiey

Marilyn “Stormiey Weatherz” Scott is an author, poet, spoken-word artist, and former foster youth who writes from the places people are often taught to keep quiet.

Her work was not born from studying survival from a distance.

She lived it.

Stormiey aged out of foster care and carried those experiences into a life shaped by public service, motherhood, poetry, and a determination to turn what once hurt into something that might help someone else find language for their own story.

Her work does not ask readers to pretend the storm never happened. It asks a different question:

What do we do with ourselves after the storm passes?

Through Fostering Feelings, Stormiey creates space for emotions that can be difficult to name, especially for young people and adults whose lives have required them to become strong too soon.

The series is rooted in grit and resilience, but it also makes room for confusion, anger, fear, tenderness, reflection, and the unfinished work of becoming.

Her writing also reaches into her own story through LACES, where survival is not polished into perfection. It is remembered, questioned, untied, and told in her own voice.

Before building her life as an author, Stormiey earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and worked in the criminal justice and protective-services fields, including years as a deputy records clerk with the Steger Police Department.

Service, community, and the belief that people are more than what happened to them continue to shape the work she creates today.

And beyond the page, Stormiey performs.

Spoken word gives breath to what print holds still. Her performances bring the words off the page and back into the voice that lived them.

Stormiey is not writing from outside the storm.

She knows the weather.

And now, she is building an archive from what survived it.
